Softball Clipped by Rowan in Doubleheader

Glassboro, NJ – The Montclair State softball team fell by identical 3-0 scores to nationally-ranked Rowan University in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon.

The Profs (24-6, 9-1 NJAC) broke through for the first run of the opener in the second inning. Breanna Bryant notched a two-out double and brought home a triple from Devyn DiPasquale. The Red Hawks (18-14, 2-8 NJAC) threatened in the third, as ANNALESA DILAURENZIO walked and ALEXIS LAW singled but could not capitalize.

Rowan finished off the scoring in the bottom of the fourth, as Grace Shukaitis delivered a two-run double to put the hosts up 3-0. The Red Hawks were unable to do any damage the rest of the way, notching only a single by KAYLA COSENTINO over the final three frames. KAYLA VOLANTE took the loss while Emily August got the win. August fanned 12 batters in the victory.

Both STEPHANIE SERETIS and Rylee Lutz matched zeroes over the first four stanzas of game two, but the Red Hawks put runners on second and third with two down in the third. ALYSSA BOROZAN notched a single before Cosentino reached on an error, but Lutz notched a strikeout to escape the jam.

Rowan put up single runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to construct their 3-0 lead, but an excellent defensive play limited the damage in the fifth. MADISON LEECH fielded a ball in right and made a perfect throw to DANIELLE DECARLO, who fired home to nab a runner trying to score. The Red Hawks loaded the bases in the sixth on a Seretis walk, a single by DANIELLE SIBILIO, and a Law single. Lutz again got out without surrendering a run, inducing a foul out to end the frame.

On Tuesday, the Red Hawks host William Paterson in a doubleheader, with the first pitch scheduled for 3 pm.
