Montclair Rolls to Second Straight Win, 22-2

Huge First Quarter Leads Red Hawks Over Cairn

Montclair, NJ – Junior TYLER MCCREERY scored twice and assisted on six other goals as Montclair State rolled to its second straight victory, knocking off Cairn University, 22-2 on Monday evening at Sprague Field.

CHRISTIAN BOYLE added four goals and an assist for the Red Hawks (8-4, 2-1 CSAC). Sixteen different players recorded a goal for Montclair with 18 players recording a point in the contest.

MSU scored nine times in the first quarter, including three times in the first four minutes. McCreery fed CHRISTIAN BOYLE for the first goal and assisted on a JOE COVINO man-up tally over minute later. Defenseman WILSON SMITH connected with 11:16 to play and a goal by ANDREA FIORENZA 19 seconds later made the score 4-0.

MATT DANCSECS and CHRISTIAN SHOTWELL tallied 14 seconds part with over eight minutes to go as the lead grew to six. McCreery set up brother MIKE MCCREERY with 4:22 left and registered his fifth assist on Boyle's second tally. TYLER MCCREERY would get a goal of his own as the Red Hawks led 9-0.

TIM ELEFONTE opened the scoring in the second when Montclair State added seven goals to its total. Boyle had two in the quarter and an ETHAN MOUNIER tally with 10:07 to play put the Red Hawks in front, 13-0. CHRISTIAN DROPP and Dancsecs each scored on the man-advantage 14 seconds apart staking MSU to 16-0 lead at the break.

Dancsecs finished with three goals while Covino, Dropp and CONNOR GABILANES each had a goal and two assists. Montclair won 21-of-27 faceoffs with Dave Driscoll going 13-of-16 with eight ground balls. Fiorenza was 8-of-11 with five ground balls.

Smith forced four turnovers and scooped up five ground balls with TYLER MCCREERY totaling the same. Goalkeepers DAVID METZGER and JAMOND RANDOLPH combined to make eight saves.

The Red Hawks return to action on Saturday, April 23 taking on Rosemont College at 1:00 pm on Senior Day.
