Men's Lacrosse Downs Kean; Earns No. 2 Seed in CSAC Tournament

Tyler McCreery Notches 200th Career Points

Montclair, NJ – Junior TYLER MCCREERY totaled six points and became the ninth player in program history to surpass the 200-career point mark as Montclair State knocked off Kean, 16-11 at Sprague Field on Wednesday evening.

McCreery finished with four goals and two assists as did CHRISTIAN BOYLE leading the Red Hawks (10-4) won their third straight and more importantly clinched the No. 2 seed in the upcoming CSAC Tournament. Montclair will host a semifinal matchup against the same Kean squad on Tuesday, May 3.

JOE COVINO tallied three times for the Red Hawks with MATT DANCSECS recording two goals and three assists. Goalkeeper Dave Metzger stopped 14 shot while faceoff specialist ANDREA FIORENZA and Dave Driscoll combined to go 22-of-29 at the "X" with 14 ground balls. Defenseman WILSON SMITH had an outstanding game with six caused turnovers and seven ground balls.

Montclair would get the first goal of the game as McCreery scored five minutes in. But Kean answered with the next three goals and led 4-2 with 4:37 to go in the first as Hunter Jenkinson found the back of the next. MIKE MCCREERY scored for the Red Hawks 12 seconds later to close the gap to 4-3 and set up what would be a huge second period for MSU.

Montclair State registered the first seven goals starting with a man-up goal from CHRISTIAN BOYLE 26 seconds into the new period. JOE COVINO tallied less than a minute later and Boyle's second of the period gave the Red Hawks a 6-4 advantage with 12:22 left. MATT DANCSECS and Connnor Gabilanes scored 23 seconds apart inside the six-minute mark as Montclair widened its lead to 8-4. TYLER MCCREERY and Dancsecs added goals to cap the run with the Cougars finally getting on the board with 1:42 remaining on a Joey McNulty score as MSU headed to the intermission with a 10-5 lead.

The McCreery brothers would open the scoring in the third as Tyler scored 1:51 in and then again with 6:35 to play giving the Red Hawks their largest lead at 12-5. Kean though battled back with three in a row, the last by Brady Moore on the man-advantage with two minutes left slicing the lead down to 12-8. Covino would pick up an important goal seconds later as MSU went in to the final period with it's five goal lead intact.

Kean's Tommy Pellegrino and ETHAN MOUNIER traded goals in the first five minutes of the fourth putting the score at 14-9. The Cougars' Hunter Jenkinson scored midway through the period and another Pellegrino goal with 6:10 left, brought Kean within 14-11. However, Boyle came up with a huge goal two minutes later off a TYLER MCCREERY assist. The helper was the 200th point of McCreery's career as he became the first Montclair player to reach the mark since current assistant Matt Haemmerle in 2019.

Boyle finished off MSU's scoring with his fourth and he whipped in a MIKE MCCREERY feed with 55 seconds to play.
