Gonzalez Goes the Distance in Shutout of Kean, 11-0

Moore Homers as Red Hawks Complete Home-and-Home Sweep

Union, NJ – On Thursday, it was the Montclair State bats on display with 25 runs and 28 hits in its victory over Kean. A day later, the Red Hawks showed they can also pitch as well.

Freshman lefthander ETHAN GONZALEZ tossed a six-hit shutout as Montclair completed a sweep of their home-and-home series with the Cougars, posting an 11-0 victory at Jim Hynes Stadium.

Shortstop JASON MOORE homered and finished with two RBI as MSU (28-9) moved a game in front of Kean for second place in the NJAC standings at 13-3, one game behind Rowan for the top spot. The first-place Profs host Kean in a doubleheader on Saturday in Glassboro while the Red Hawks head to Camden for its twinbill with Rutgers-Camden starting at 2:00 pm.

Gonzalez registered the first complete-game shutout by a Montclair State hurler since BRIAN REISS spun a four-hitter against Oneonta in March of 2019. The lefty gave up six singles and struck out two as he improved to 4-1 on the year.
With Gonzalez recording another outstanding outing in the pitching department, the Red Hawk offense did what it's done almost all season – score runs. MSU hit double-digits in the run department for the 13th time.

A pair of errors by the Cougars in the first and fourth innings allowed MSU to score four times. MICHAEL MURPHY and Miles Fester came home on a miscue in the first with JORDEN JURKIEWICZ and ANTHONY GUARINO doing the game in the fourth.

MSU extended the lead to 9-0 in the sixth. Rightfielder RYAN MCKENNA singled back through the middle scoring Jurkiewicz and Murphy doubled in PETER COSENTINO and JOE NORTON with a double. ANDREW OLLWERTHER capped the inning with a two-run double in the left-centerfield gap.

Moore cracked a solo homer to lead off the seventh inning with Guarino driving in the final run in the eighth on a sacrifice fly.

Feaster, Murphy, Moore and McKenna each had two hits for the Red Hawks.
