Fast Start by Scranton Leads Royals Past MSU

Red Hawks Fall 18-10

Scranton, PA – Scranton University Matthew McAree scored six goals, including two in game-opening five-goal run as the Royals knocked off Montclair State, 18-10 on Wednesday afternoon.

Cole Lukasiewicz added three goals for Scranton (6-5).

TYLER MCCREERY finished with five goals and three assists for the Red Hawks (6-4), who have dropped two straight following a six-game winning streak.

The Royals grabbed a quick 2-0 lead in the first 90 seconds as Lukasiewicz and McAree each found the back of the net. Nick Donato scored two minutes later and a Ryan Turner goal with 9:12 left made the score 4-0. McAree collected his second to cap the run with just under six minutes to go.

Montclair State cut that deficit to 5-2 on goals from McCreery and CONNOR GABILANES, however Matt Solleder found McAree with 2:15 to go as Scranton led 6-2 after the first period.

Lukasiewicz opened the second quarter with his second goal but that was matched by MATT DANCSECS three minutes later. The Royals widened the gap with a four-goal run to take an 11-3 lead. Colin Hughes and Solleder sandwiched goals around two from McAree. McCreery snapped the run with in the last minute, but McAree came through again with nine seconds remaining, sending Scranton into the break with a 12-4 lead.

Montclair would get within 12-7 midway through the third as McCreery had a hand in all three goals to start the new half. He connected with 12:47 left and assisted on a goal by MIKE MCCREERY at the 7:31 mark before scoring again 40 seconds later. But
Scranton got those three goals back, plus three more, taking an 18-7 advantage on a goal by Alex Eglitis two minutes into the fourth.

CHRISTIAN BOYLE and Dancsecs each had a goal and two assists for MSU. DAVID METZGER stopped 16 shots while AIDAN MAXWELL forced three turnovers.

The Red Hawks are back in in the Pennsylvania area again on Friday, April 8 as it meets Keystone College at 4:00 pm in a CSAC matchup.
