Women's Lacrosse Falls to TCNJ in NJAC Opener

Ewing, NJ – The Montclair State women's lacrosse team was upended by No. 7 The College of New Jersey 18-3 Saturday afternoon.
 
Jennifer LaRocca notched five goals and two assists for TCNJ (8-1, 1-0 NJAC), while TRISTIN KONEN notched a pair of goals for the Red Hawks (4-5, 0-1 NJAC).
 
Konen opened the scoring 1:28 into the game as she netted an unassisted marker, but the Lions rebounded with the next eight goals bridging the first and second periods. LaRocca had four goals during the run, while Anna Wright notched a goal and an assist. HALEY DORAN stopped the spurt with an unassisted marker with 12:10 left in the second quarter, but TCNJ finished the frame with the last three goals.
 
At the break, TCNJ was outshooting MSU 22-8 and outgained Montclair 12-3 in draw controls.
 
The Lions tallied the five more goals in the third stanza before Konen ended the run with her second goal of the afternoon off a Doran assist. ALLYN LILIEN denied two TCNJ scoring chances in the fourth period, but the Lions finished scoring with 6:45 to go as Anna Devlin converted a LaRocca pass for the goal.
 
Konen and Doran combined for eight shots, while KAITLIN ZAZZARO caused three turnovers in the defensive end. Jillian Westerby and Devlin notched eight draw controls, while Ally Tobler scored three goals in the victory for TCNJ.
 
The Red Hawks return home next Saturday to host Rutgers Camden at 1 pm.
