Baseball Topped by William Paterson in NJAC Tournament

Union, NJ – The Montclair State baseball team fell to William Paterson University 20-9 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference Tournament Sunday night.
 
The Red Hawks (31-10) will face sixth-seeded Ramapo College in an elimination game Monday at noon. William Paterson will then battle the winner of that matchup at 7 pm. Kean University and The College of New Jersey will square off in the middle game at 3:30 pm.
 
In the first inning, William Paterson tallied six runs, the big blow a two-run homer from Dylan Habeeb. The Red Hawks cut into the lead in the second, putting up four of their own. MICHAEL MURPHY led off by getting hit with a pitch before ANTHONY GUARINO, and JASON MOORE singled to load up the bases. JORDEN JURKIEWICZ laced a double into left-center field to score two before JOE NORTON singled to right-center to plate two more.
 
The Pioneers rebounded in the top of the third, notching seven more runs. Vinnie Martin recorded a two-run single, and Habeeb belted his second round-tripper of the evening, a three-run shot, to extend the lead to 13-4. Moore delivered an RBI single in the third, with MILES FEASTER singling back through the box in the fourth to trim the gap to seven at 13-6.
 
Martin stretched the lead to double-figures with a bases-clearing double in the sixth, but Feaster got a run back in the home half of the frame with a single back up the middle. The Pioneers hit their third long ball of the game in the seventh, with Carson Weis notching a two-run shot. The Red Hawks tallied a pair of runs in the ninth to establish the final margin, as SAM ANGELO had a sacrifice fly and Norton recorded an RBI single.
 
Norton went 3-for-4 with three RBI, while Jurkiewicz and Feaster brought in two runs. NICOLAS CURCIO fanned five in 3 2/3 innings of relief, as PATRICK TEEHAN tossed 1 2/3 scoreless frames.
