Women's Swimming & Diving: 2021-22 Season In Review

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State women's swimming and diving team posted a 7-2-1 record this winter, the most wins since the 2017-18 campaign.
 
SEASON HIGHLIGHTS
The Red Hawks went undefeated in meets after October 22, going 7-0-1 during the final stretch. For the just second time in Head Coach Brian McLaughlin's tenure at Montclair State, the Red Hawks tied a meet in their 150-150 draw with Rowan on November 6. The team also placed seventh at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational and recorded New Jersey Athletic Conference victories over Kean, Ramapo, and William Paterson.
 
METROPOLITAN CHAMPIONSHIPS
Montclair State placed fifth at the Metropolitan Championships, gaining 881 team points. EMILY ROTHAMEL closed out her swimming career by becoming a two-time Metropolitan Champion, as she won the 200-backstroke. She was over two seconds clear of the field, recording a time of 2:07.43. In the same event, ERIN BARRETT won the "B" finals, clocking in 2:12.54. In the 1,650-freestyle, MSU registered top-10 finishes from JULIE TIEDEMANN (fifth in 18:12.62) and TAYLOR WADDLETON (18:26.05).
 
Julianna Skopp-Cardillo qualified for the finals and placed eighth in the 100-freestyle as she clocked in at 54.5, while Barrett and Rothamel placed sixth and seventh respectively in the back-stroke. Tiedemann added a sixth-place time of 5:16.92 in the 500-freestyle as Skopp-Cardillo finished sixth in the 50-freestyle in 24.66. Also, in the 50-free, LIDIA BOGUSLAWSKA took first in the "B" finals, touching the wall in 24.67.
 
ALL-NJAC
Rothamel was a First Team All-NJAC in the 200-backstroke, while Tiedemann was a Second Team choice in the 200-free and Honorable Mention in the 500-free. Joining Tiedemann on the Honorable Mention list were Barrett and rookie ABBY BROCK. Barrett claimed the honor in the 100-backstroke as Brock gained accolades in the 100-breaststroke.
 
The Red Hawks also put four relay squads on the All-NJAC list, starting with the 200-medley foursome of Rothamel, Brock, Juliet DiPasquale, and Boguslawska notching a mark of 1:49.11. The 400-freestyle relay (Boguslawska, Skopp-Cardillo, Brock, and SOPHIA SHOPOVICK – 3:42.71), and the 800-freestyle relay (Tiedemann, Waddleton, Skopp-Cardillo, Rothamel – 7:56.24), and 400-medley relay (Rothamel, Brock, DiPasquale, and Skopp-Cardillo – 4:04.4) were the teams honored.
