Late Goals Send No. 12 Women's Soccer Past DeSales

Montclair, NJ AILEEN CAHILL and KYLIE PRENDERGAST delivered late goals to lead the No. 12 Montclair State women's soccer team past DeSales 3-1 Saturday night.

HALEY MARTIN and Hannah Pacheco matched each other early, as both keepers snared multiple shots in the first 20 minutes. In the 28th minute, KIMBERLY CAMPBELL was fouled near the end line, and the Red Hawks (6-0-0) were awarded a free kick. TARA LAMBERT served the ball, and Campbell headed it down, putting the hosts up 1-0. Playing with the lead, NIKI DANZ moved in on goal late in the frame, but her try went over the crossbar. Martin made one stop in the 43rd minute, and Montclair State took a 1-0 advantage into halftime.

Campbell had another opportunity to double the lead in the 60th minute but was snuffed out by Pacheco. KYLINN KRAEMER also had a pair of chances thwarted as her header off a corner hit the crossbar, and the other was stopped. The Bulldogs leveled the game in the 75th minute, as Emma Ribeiro netted an unassisted tally.

The Red Hawks answered back just under five minutes, as Cahill maneuvered around defenders and fired a blast from the left side of the box into the opposite corner for her third marker of the year. With the team leading, they found a much-needed insurance goal in the 84th minute. SAMANTHA GABRIELE sent a pass into the box and was touched on by Cahill to Prendergast. The rookie took a touch and scored her second tally of the season. Martin preserved the two-goal win with a sprawling punch-out on a Meghan Foley try with 3:37 to go.

Campbell tallied five shots and four on frame while Martin denied four shots in goal. Pacheco notched six saves in the setback for DeSales.

The Red Hawks remain home Thursday, battling Farmingdale State at 7 pm at MSU Soccer Park.
