Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Goldberg, Chesney Lead No. 16/21 Men's Soccer Past Penn State-Abington

Montclair, NJ – JUSTIN GOLDBERG and IAN CHESNEY tallied a goal and assist as the No. 16/21 Montclair State men's soccer team topped Penn State-Abington 3-0 Tuesday.

Montclair (5-0-3) needed 7:30 to get on the scoreboard after Chesney was able to switch the field and played Goldberg up the left flank. Goldberg fired from a long distance, and the shot glanced off a defender for his first goal of the season. The Nittany Lions tried to break through in the 22nd minute, but BORIS DEL VALLE was there to make the denial.

As time ticked away in the period, OUZI GUEYE notched a pair of shots that goalkeeper Matt Sheldon denied. Off a free-kick in the 38th minute, Chesney redirected a try on goal but was unable to get it to go. After the Red Hawks were awarded a corner in the 39th minute, EVAN CHACON sent a great ball into the box that was flicked on Goldberg. Chesney was waiting and slammed home the shot for his team-leading fourth goal of the year.

The Red Hawks' defense limited Abington to just one shot in the second while attempting 14. ANTHONY VIOLA had his try stopped in the 48th minute but responded three minutes later with his first career goal on a shot from outside the 18-yard box. Penn State-Abington was shotless over the final 41 minutes as Montclair came away with the 3-0 win.

BORIS DEL VALLE tallied his fourth clean sheet of the season while making two saves. Chacon, Gueye, and Chesney led the way with three shots each.

The Red Hawks open New Jersey Athletic Conference play on Friday as they host NJCU at 7 pm at MSU Soccer Park.
