Field Hockey Edged by Union, 2-1

Schenectady, NY – The Montclair State field hockey team dropped a 2-1 decision to Union College Saturday.

LAUREN ZULTOWSKI recorded her first career goal in the 25th minute, while LAUREN PICKUL made five saves in the setback.

The Dutch wasted little time and scored 1:40 into the contest. Off a penalty corner, Jill Bove fed Megan Dorsey was waiting near the side of the goal mouth for her first tally of the year. The Red Hawks put the next two shots on the cage, with TORI SUTERA and SADIE EICHLIN having tries stopped by the Union goalkeeper.

Union doubled their lead in the 18th minute, with Emily Dawson notching her third goal of the season off an assist from Alyssa Pavano. The Red Hawks trimmed the deficit in half in the 25th minute. After CARLIE VAN TASSEL's initial shot was stopped, the rebound found LINSEY CHAMPA. Champa rifled a shot that was tipped in by Zultowski, making the score 2-1 with 5:46 left before halftime. Pickul kept it that way, making a pair of saves as time wound down in the frame.

Union goalkeeper Sophie Brady preserved the one-goal lead late in the third quarter, as she stopped Eichlin and ALEXA ANTONELLI in succession off a penalty corner. Union could not capitalize off three penalty corners in the fourth quarter before Eichlin made a defensive save in the 52nd minute. Pickul made two stops late in the game, but the Red Hawks could not complete the comeback.

In addition to her defensive save, Eichlin led the Red Hawks with two shots on goal. Dawson had a game-high four shots for Union.
