Second Half Rally Sends Women's Soccer Past Endicott

Montclair, NJ – Freshmen EMILY SCHULER and KYLIE PRENDERGAST tallied their first collegiate goals in the second to propel the Montclair State women's soccer team to a 2-1 triumph over Endicott Sunday.

The Red Hawks (3-0-0) outshot Endicott (1-1-0) 21-9, including a 12-6 margin in shots on goal.

Montclair nearly broke through in the ninth minute, but EMMI DENOVELLIS' shot glanced off the crossbar. The team had back-to-back tries in the 18th minute as AILEEN CAHILL, and KIMBERLY CAMPBELL had their opportunities stopped by Jacqueline Ruggiero. Goalkeeper HALEY MARTIN preserved the scoreless game with a save in the 28th minute before DeNovellis had another opportunity parried away by Ruggiero for a corner. AILEEN CAHILL placed a header on goal off the corner kick but was stopped.

Despite the Red Hawks owning a large shot differential, the host Gulls tallied the first marker of the game. Lindsey Papa made a nice run down the right and sent a cross into the box. The ball found Julia Matus, who chipped Martin for her team-leading third tally of the season. The Red Hawks nearly equalized in the 65th minute as Cahill's header deflected off the post.

All the pressure the Red Hawks applied paid dividends in the 71st minute. DeNovellis swung in a corner kick, and KYLINN KRAEMER had her attempt saved by Ruggiero. The rebound came to Schuler, who back-heel flicked the ball into the goal for her first goal of her young career.

With the game level, Montclair State searched for the go-ahead marker. They found in the 79th minute, as AILEEN CAHILL dribbled in and placed a perfect through ball to Prendergast. The freshman needed just one touch before putting it into the back of the goal, pushing the Red Hawks in front. Staked to the one-goal lead, Montclair tightened the defense up again, holding Endicott in one shot on target over the final 10 minutes.

Cahill led the Red Hawks with four shots as DeNovellis, Campbell, and Prendergast had three apiece. Martin made five saves to earn her third victory in as many games.

The Red Hawks return home on Wednesday to host Vassar College at 7 pm.
