Men's Basketball Topped By Rowan in NJAC Action

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State men's basketball battled but fell to Rowan University 109-103 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference action Wednesday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The two sides got off to a blistering start, scoring 18 points in the first 2:20. SAMAR ABDULLAH knocked off a three-pointer at the 15:42 mark, putting Montclair in front 14-13. Rowan used an 8-2 spurt to jump back up two at 21-16 and extended the lead to eight on consecutive threes from Ahmad Bickley.
  • The Red Hawks drew to within a point after a 7-0 rally punctuated by a GREG ECK layup. Rowan used two straight threes from Marcellus Ross to take a 44-34 lead, and the Profs finished the period with eight of the final 10 markers.
  • Rowan shot at a 58.3% (21-of-36) clip in the first half and went 6-of-11 from three while holding Montclair to 35.9% (14-of-39) from the floor.
  • The Profs continued to make shots and pushed the margin to 19 on a Bickley layup. STEVEN BREEMAN hit a three-pointer with 10:17 left to shrink the gap to 15 before Abdullah netted five consecutive markers. KYREE HENRY hit from the deep with 8:15 left, bringing the gap to nine.
  • The sides would go back and forth before four straight Rowan points stretched the lead to 13. Montclair made one final push, as a 12-4 run made it 100-95 with 2:39 left. KEYON PRYCE had 10 of the 12 tallies during the run.
  • The Red Hawks would only get as close as the rest of the way as Rowan shot 20-of-23 from the free-throw line in the second half to take the win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Breeman scored a career-high 30 points on 8-of-14 shooting. The senior was 6-of-9 from three and added eight rebounds in the back.
  • Pryce tallied 24 points while also shooting 8-of-14, as KIERAN FLANAGAN filled the stat sheet with seven points, seven rebounds, five assists, and three steals.
  • Rowan placed five in double-figures, led by 24 points and 11 boards from Ja'Zere Noel.

The Red Hawks head to Union, NJ Saturday to face Kean in New Jersey Athletic Conference play at 1 pm.
