Women's Basketball Falls To Kean

Union, NJ – The Montclair State women's basketball team was knocked off by Kean University 58-41 in New Jersey Athletic Conference action Saturday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • SHANNON HUGHES and NICKIE CARTER hit from beyond the arc early in the first quarter for Montclair (8-8, 5-4 NJAC) to give the visitors an 8-7 advantage. The see-saw period saw Montclair pull in front 14-11, and they closed the frame out with a layup at the buzzer from ISABELLA ORLANDO.
  • Carter extended the Red Hawks' lead to four at 22-18 with a three-pointer 42 ticks into the second quarter before the host Cougars embarked on a 12-0 run over the next eight minutes.
  • OLIVIA VERO stopped the run with a jumper before Orlando was fouled while shooting a three with no time left. The rookie drained all three, sending Montclair into the half down 32-27.
  • Kean broke the game open with a 15-3 spurt opening the third quarter and took a 17-point lead into the fourth.
  • The two sides each tallied eight points in the fourth quarter, with Montclair State receiving four from ALEXIS STROLLO and two from Hughes and GENEVIEVE FARA. The Red Hawk defense limited Kean to one field goal over the final 3:30 to establish the final margin.

  • Carter paced the Red Hawks with 11 points and six rebounds.
  • Vero pulled down a career-high 14 rebounds while adding three assists and two blocks.
  • Orlando chipped in seven points and four boards off the bench for Montclair.
  • Kean placed four student-athletes in double-figures, led by 12 from Brittany Graff.
