Women's Basketball Storms Back To Top Rutgers-Camden

Camden, NJ – Junior MAHOGANY WORSLEY-WOOTEN poured in a career-high 18 points and 12 rebounds as the Montclair State women's basketball team stormed back to knock off Rutgers-Camden 68-59 Saturday in New Jersey Athletic Conference action.

MEGAN DUFFY netted a season-high 21 points for Montclair State (9-9, 6-5 NJAC) as Rahzirah Blocker added a game-high 35 points for Rutgers-Camden (2-16, 0-11 NJAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Rutgers-Camden raced out to a 14-4 lead and held a 14-6 advantage after the first quarter. The Scarlet Raptors limited Montclair to just 1-of-11 shooting in the first 10 minutes.
  • The lead swelled to 15 as the hosts notched the first five markers of the second stanza. Montclair State netted the following six tallies, with Duffy putting in the last four. Duffy and rookie ISABELLA ORLANDO drained consecutive three-pointers, cutting a 12-point gap in half.
  • Those triples were a part of the team's 10-2 spurt, but Rutgers-Camden led 35-30 at the end of the half.
  • Montclair shot 71.4% (10-of-14) from the floor in the second quarter, but Rutgers-Camden was 12-of-14 from the free-throw line in the half.
  • The Red Hawks, who trailed for the entirety of the first half, took their first lead of the afternoon on a BRIANNA MONTAJES layup. Camden took a two-point lead back, but Worsley-Wooten took over.
  • The junior netted eight consecutive points, including two three-pointers, as the Scarlet Raptors sat back off her behind the arc. Worsley-Wooten was fouled as time expired at the third of the third and calmly sank both tries to snap a 50-50 game.
  • The Scarlet Raptors got within a pair, but MADELYN MCCREA kick-started an 8-0 run, notching six points of her own during the stretch. Duffy and Montajes converted free throws down the stretch.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Worsley-Wooten tallied her first career double-double, pulling down four boards on the offensive glass in addition to eight defensive caroms. The junior was 6-of-9 from the floor, including 2-for-2 from deep.
  • Duffy's 21 points were two off her career-high set against Ramapo on December 1, 2021.
  • Making her first start of the season, McCrea chipped in 10 points and grabbed five rebounds.
  • ALEXIS STROLLO tallied five points off the bench with six boards as Montclair held a 43-35 edge on the glass.
