Women's Basketball Falls to TCNJ

Ewing, NJ – The Montclair State women's basketball team was knocked off by The College of New Jersey 69-52 Saturday afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • TCNJ opened the game with 10 of the first 12 points, opening a 10-2 lead 2:39 into the game.
  • Trailing 15-4, Montclair used a 13-2 run, finished by an ALEXIS STROLLO layup, to get within four to end the first quarter. MADELYN MCCREA added four points during the spurt to help the Red Hawks get back in the game.
  • The Red Hawks closed to within one with a traditional three-point play from NICKIE CARTER, but TCNJ went on a 6-0 run to bring the gap back to seven. McCrea converted a layup to get the score to 25-22, but Lions finished the period on a 12-2 spurt, including three straight triples.
  • The host Lions held Montclair scoreless over the final 4:25 of the second and hit 4-of-8 from behind the arc to lead 38-24 at the break.
  • The lead swelled to 20 late in the third before MEGAN DUFFY hit a three-pointer, and Strollo made a layup to get to 15 entering the fourth.
  • Montclair closed to 10 midway through the fourth on a pair of Carter free throws, but the Lions finished the game with the final seven points to come away with the win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Carter scored a game-high 21 points as McCrea chipped in a career-high 14 points off the bench.
  • Duffy, Carter, and OLIVIA VERO led the Red Hawks with five rebounds, as Strollo picked up four points and three assists.

"Disappointing effort today all around. TCNJ was able to capitalize on our turnovers, and they got too many open looks from 3-point line. We have to put this beyond us and move forward as a team." - Head Coach Karin Harvey.

The Red Hawks host William Paterson in New Jersey Athletic Conference action Wednesday, with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 pm.
