Fourth Quarter Rally Sends Women's Basketball Past Stockton

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State women's basketball team outscored Stockton 24-11 in the fourth quarter to claim a 72-61 victory Saturday.

NICKIE CARTER scored a game-high 27 points, including the 1,200th of her career, for Montclair State (6-7, 3-3 NJAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks trailed 10-8 after an Emma Morrone three-pointer, but they rebounded with a 7-0 spurt to jump back in front. Stockton got to within a pair, but SHANNON HUGHES gave Montclair a 19-13 lead after one with a three-pointer with 49 seconds left.
  • Stockton trailed 25-19 after a MADELYN MCCREA layup but used a 7-0 run to inch back in front. After the two sides traded free-throws, MEGAN DUFFY drained with 48 ticks left to tie things at 31 entering halftime.
  • Montclair shot 12-of-23 (52.2%) from the floor in the first, including 4-for-4 from the line in the second period.
  • The Red Hawks went on 8-0 rally early in the third quarter, holding Stockton without a point for nearly three minutes to turn a two-point deficit into a six-point lead. Carter contributed four points during the spurt, with MAHOGANY WORSLEY-WOOTEN adding a bucket.
  • Montclair led by seven with 2:47 to go in the third, but the visitors embarked on a 12-3 run over the rest of the period to squeeze in front 50-48 entering the fourth.
  • Carter propelled Montclair to lead, knocking down consecutive three-pointers to put them up 56-52. Those triples jump-started the Montclair offense, as Montclair scored the following 12 points to build a double-figure lead. Stockton was limited to no points during the five-minute stretch, allowing Montclair to take control.
  • Stockton closed to within eight, but Carter and ISABELLA ORLANDO drained clutch shots from the charity stripe to cement the victory.
