No. 11 Women's Soccer Takes Down Rutgers-Newark 5-1

Newark, NJ – The No. 11 Montclair State University women's soccer team topped Rutgers-Newark 5-1 on Wednesday evening.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks broke through for the opening marker in the 15th minute. After receiving a short pass from KERRI DRISCOLL, KELLY FITZGERALD booted a long ball into the attacking third. AILEEN CAHILL was on the receiving end, and she poked the ball past the Rutgers-Newark goalkeeper.
  • Montclair doubled the lead in the 24th minute, as Cahill got the ball in the box and fed KYLIE PRENDERGAST. The sophomore turned and fired into the portion of the net, stretching the lead to 2-0.
  • The Red Hawks weren't done, as Prendergast bagged her second marker of the game in the 28th minute. MEAGAN O'CALLAHAN bent a ball into the 18, and the Livingston, NJ native buried the pass for the 3-0 lead. 1:09 later, the Scarlet Raiders failed to clear the zone, and KIMBERLY CAMPBELL headed the ball into the goal, making it 4-0.
  • Montclair capped off their first-half barrage after GIANNA CURCI picked up an errant clear by the goalie and deposited the try into the vacant net. The Red Hawks held a commanding 12-1 advantage in shots while taking both corner kicks.
  • The Scarlet Raiders got a goal back in the 61st minute, converting a penalty kick after a foul in the box. Neither side could record a shot on frame the remainder of the match as Montclair came away with the 5-1 triumph.
