Football Bested By Salisbury

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State University football team fell 31-12 to Salisbury University on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (3-3, 2-1 NJAC) went three and out on their first possession, but COLE MASSER recovered a fumble off a muffed punt. Montclair couldn't do anything with the possession, and a blocked punt was scooped up and returned for a touchdown.
  • Montclair fumbled on their next drive, and Salisbury went on a six-play, 72-yard trip that ended with a rushing touchdown. The Red Hawks held Salisbury to just a field goal opening the second quarter, and an outstanding punt by MICHAEL FITZPATRICK pinned the Sea Gulls at their own one.
  • After a short punt, the Red Hawks broke through for their first points of the afternoon late in the second frame. Montclair kept a drive alive on a fourth down completion to ANTHONY ROIGE before AIDAN MCLAUGHLIN hit CLARENCE WILKINS for a nine-yard strike.
  • The Sea Gulls got a long return after the score, and two plays later, made it 24-6 on a short touchdown pass. After a scoreless third quarter, the Sea Gulls finished their scoring with an eight-yard rushing touchdown.
  • DIMITRI PALI forced a fumble later in the game and recovered, setting Montclair up at the Salisbury 30. The Red Hawks needed one play to find the endzone, as McLaughlin linked up with Roige for a score.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • McLaughlin threw for 126 yards and two touchdowns in his first start of the season.
  • Roige hauled in five passes for 55 yards, with Wilkins grabbing four for 52 yards.
  • The defense was led by 10 tackles from NICHOLAS BURGESS and JAKE COLON, with Colon, DIMITRI PALI, and MOHAMMAD ABEDRABO forcing fumbles.
