HOW IT HAPPENED

LBC grabbed a slim margin late in the set, but Montclair ended things with a 5-1 spurt, punctuated with a kill from RACHEL CURRAN.
  • The Red Hawks reeled off four consecutive markers in set two, with Curran and SKYE RAMSEY netting kills. Montclair grabbed a 19-13 edge after a 5-0 run was kick-started with a double-block from ZOEY HORN and SOFIA DIPROFIO.
  • An ace from EMMA HATCHER brought up set point, but LBC fended off five points to level the frame at 24. LILY THOMAS notched a solo block to reclaim the lead before Konrad and Horn ended set two with a rejection.
  • Montclair trailed 7-3 in the third, but a 6-2 run, polished off with a DiProfio kill, made it 17-14 Montclair. ADDISON CASTLES delivered back-to-back aces, and a kill from Ramsey ended the match in a sweep.
  • Against Penn State-Berks, neither side was able to pull away until a 5-2 Red Hawk rally stretched the score to 21-17. The Nittany Lions could get as close as five, but a service error handed set one to Montclair.

Berks used four points of their own to creep back in front 18-17, and the frame was tied at 19 and 21 before Montclair registered four of the last five markers. The set ended with a double rejection from Thomas and Konrad.
  • Montclair used a 7-1 spurt in the third period to turn a three-point deficit into a three-point lead. Ramsey, SOPHIA LOPEZ, and Curran had kills, with Hatcher recording an ace. FROM THE COURT
"We are happy with the result today of two matches in 3-0 fashion. We did a good job finishing tight sets even when playing a bit inconsistent. Unforced errors, mostly on the attacking side, put us in tough spots but we still managed to close out the sets. I thought we did a good job blocking today and our defense filled the open spaces well." - Head Coach Eddie Stawinski.
