Harrison, NJ – The No. 11 Montclair State University men's soccer team notched a 4-0 triumph over William Paterson University in New Jersey Athletic Conference play on Wednesday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Pioneers almost broke through in the eighth, as they had someone break free of the defense. The shot was just wide of the left post, keeping the score deadlocked. OWEN MURPHY had his try sail wide in the 12th minute before ANTHONY VIOLA's shot in the 13th minute stopped.
- The Red Hawks continued to apply pressure as the goalkeeper snagged OSBIN MENDEZ's bending attempt from outside the box. Montclair opened the scoring in the 33rd minute as SALEM ELLISY corralled a loose ball. He threaded a pass to Murphy, who tucked a shot inside the post to make it 1-0.
- The lead doubled in the 37th minute. Mendez and AMER LUKOVIC engaged in a give-and-go, with Mendez slipping a pass to Lukovic. The junior deposited the try into the back of the goal, extending the lead to 2-0.
- With 17 seconds remaining in the first half, BRUNO ESPOSITO intercepted a pass near the midfield line. The midfielder dribbled untouched to right outside the box, where he passed off to Lukovic. Lukovic touched the ball through to ANDRE SHELTON, whose sharp angle from the left side of the 18 went in, stretching the lead to 3-0.
- 11 minutes into the second half, Lukovic notched his second marker of the evening. He was taken inside the box and stepped up to the spot to take the penalty kick. His shot was out of the keeper's reach, extending the margin to 4-0.

FROM THE FIELD
"It was a great venue to play in, I want to thank the Red Bulls for giving us this opportunity and let's give credit to the guys for putting in the hard work and being able to get some other guys in the game that don't normally get in the game and it was great to see everyone with smiles on their face and enjoying the win." – Head Coach Todd Tumelty.
"Scoring at a place like Red Bull Arena is obviously different. It's a different experience than scoring at a normal college field. Just having the fans we had a really good crowd here so celebrating in front of them and it's a team that I grew up watch my entire life. It's a hometown team so scoring at their arena is just a really awesome and unique experience.
