Harrison, NJ – The No. 14 Montclair State University women's soccer team notched a 3-0 shutout win over William Paterson University at Red Bull Arena on Wednesday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Montclair controlled possession early, as a header from KERRI DRISCOLL went high in the ninth minute. Off a free kick in the 13th minute, Kylie Predergast and MEAGAN O'CALLAHAN notched tries just off target.
- The Red Hawks nearly broke through in the 15th minute, but AILEEN CAHILL was ruled offside as she put the ball in the goal. After entering as a substitute in the 19th minute, LAUREN ERNST had an attempt blocked before O'Callahan rocketed a try off the crossbar.
- Montclair drew first blood in the 28th minute. Prendergast won a loose ball that ended up on the foot of EMMI DENOVELLIS. The junior dribbled in the left side of the 18-yard box and rifled a shot into the upper half of the opposite corner to give Montclair the lead.
- SHANNON MULLINS nearly doubled the lead in the 56th minute off a cross from Prendergast, but her shot went right into the keeper. Almost a minute later, Prendergast went one-on-one with the goalie but could not find the back of the net.
- The Red Hawks added to their margin in the 69th minute. O'Callahan booted a ball across the box that took a glance off a Pioneer defender. Rookie GIANNA CURCI slid in and poked the pass past the goalie, making it 2-0.
