Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball Topped By William Paterson

Haledon, NJ – The Montclair State University volleyball team fell in straight-sets to William Paterson University on Thursday night.

The Red Hawks (12-12, 2-5 NJAC) had their four-game winning streak snapped.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Neither side could take control of the opening stanza early before William Paterson opened up a 13-10 advantage. Kills from ZOEY HORN and SOFIA DIPROFIO trimmed the deficit to one at 18-17, and the Red Hawks pulled even at 19 on a Pioneer attack error.
  • The Pioneers reeled off four of the following five points, jumping in front 23-20. A service error stopped the run, yet Montclair yielded the final two markers to fall 25-21 in the first set.
  • William Paterson jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the second period. Montclair battled back as SKYE RAMSEY trimmed the margin to 13-10 with a kill. William Paterson embarked on a 9-3 spurt to grab a nine-point edge. SHELLEY EATON paused the rally with a kill, but the hosts tallied three of the last four markers to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
  • The Pioneers went up 9-4 in the third frame, but a double-block from EMILY CARCICH and LILY THOMAS made it 9-8 to cap off a 4-0 run. The stanza was tied at 13, 14, 15, and 16, with the Pioneers stretching the gap to four at 20-16.
  • William Paterson brought up match point on the heels of a 4-1 run before Horn downed a kill to fend off match point. The Pioneers closed the match as they pinned down a kill to clinch the 3-0 win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE FROM THE COURT
"We had a bit of an off night on a few areas tonight. Our offense didn't really get going consistently. Credit to William Paterson that served us tough, played good defense, and attacked with efficiency. We had moments throughout the match that things clicked, but couldn't find a way to go on a scoring run. We will use this match to learn and prepare for next weeks final NJAC match and non-conference games ahead." - Head Coach Eddie Stawinski.
