Women's Soccer Outlasts Stockton 3-2 In Double Overtime

Montclair, NJ - The No.19 and third-seeded Montclair State University women's soccer team outlasted sixth-seeded Stockton University 3-2 in the First Round of the New Jersey Athletic Conference Tournament on Saturday afternoon. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks led the Ospreys in shots 13-1 in the first half, but couldn't connect and fell 1-0 to Stockton at the half. 
  • AILEEN CAHILL was able to connect and finally put a point on the board for the Red Hawks. She scored off a renowned shot from Prendergast.
  • The Red Hawks put themselves up one t in the 75th minute as MEAGAN O'CALLAHAN striked one in off a volley from #25 KYLIE PRENDERGAST
  • In the 88th minute, Stockton's Rylee Getter was able to get one by the Red Hawks as a scramble in the box resulted in a goal for the Ospreys sending the game into Overtime. 
  • The Red Hawks pulled away eight minutes and 29 seconds into the first overtime with a goal from NICOLE RICCI, assist to AILEEN CAHILL.
  • The Ospreys had one opportunity to tie it up, but were unsuccessful. 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Montclair led the Ospreys in shots, dominating 36-4. 
  • EMMI DENOVELLIS led the Red Hawks with seven shots, four shots on goal
  • Cahill and Predergast each had two assists
  • Ricci's goal was her first of the season and first of her career
FROM THE FIELD
"I loved how we played in the first half and felt a little unlucky to be trailing. The team responded really well to take the lead in the second half. To concede a tying goal with such little time left would have crushed most groups but I think we showed our resiliency, heart, and grit to pull out the win!" - Head Coach Pat Naughter.
