No. 20 Women's Soccer Clipped by No. 15 TCNJ 3-2 In NJAC Semifinals

Ewing, NJ - The No. 20 Montclair State University and third-seeded women's soccer team fell 3-1 to No. 15 and second-seeded The College of New Jersey on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (13-3-2) had the first scoring chance of the match, as SHANNON MULLINS' shot from distance was stopped in the sixth minute. 1:16 later, AILEEN CAHILL's try just sailed over the crossbar.
  • The Lions opened the scoring in the 12th minute as a pass was sent into the box, and Ava Garay took a touch and fired a shot into the top corner of the goal for the lead.
  • The lead doubled in the 23rd minute as Emma Pascarella corralled a pass in the box and one-touched the ball into the goal for the 2-0 advantage.
  • At the end of the first half, TCNJ held a 10-5 advantage in shots and a slim 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
  • The Red Hawks cut the margin in half in the 53rd minute. KYLIE PRENDERGAST grabbed a loose ball, weaved through several defenders, and uncorked a low shot that eluded a diving goalkeeper to make it 2-1.
  • TCNJ had a golden opportunity to re-establish the two-goal margin in the 57th minute, but NICOLE RICCI cleared a header off a corner kick off the line to keep it at 2-1. With 18:29 remaining in the second period, Pascarella sent a cross that found the head of Garay, extending the deficit to 3-1.
  • After a foul on Cahill in the box, the senior stepped up to the penalty spot and converted the kick, trimming the deficit to 3-2 with 3:22 left in the second.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Cahill's goal was her team-leading 11th of the campaign.
  • Prendergast's marker was her eighth of the year, three off of Cahill's total.
  • HALEY MARTIN matched a season-high with seven saves, tying her season-high from earlier this year against Misericordia.
