Volleyball Topped By Stevens

Hoboken, NJ – The Montclair State University volleyball team was tripped up by Stevens in non-conference action on Saturday.

The Red Hawks (8-11) were topped 25-13, 25-19, and 25-12.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks led 4-3 early before the hosts netted six consecutive tallies to go up 9-4. A double block by ZOEY HORN and SKYE RAMSEY capped off a 4-1 rally to get Montclair within one at 11-10 before Stevens went on a 12-1 run to break the frame open.
  • Stevens took a 9-5 advantage in the second period, but LILY THOMAS slammed home a kill, trimming the deficit to 9-8. A 7-2 Ducks spurt extended the gap to seven, yet Montclair continued to battle back.
  • EMILY CARCICH and RACHEL CURRAN tallied kills, and an attack error from Stevens brought the score to 20-17, but the Red Hawks could not get any closer. The Ducks took set two after tallying three of the final four points.
  • A double block from SHELLEY EATON and SOPHIA LOPEZ finished off a 4-0 run that gave Montclair a 5-4 lead. The Ducks broke the stanza open with a 13-3 run before Ramsey pinned down a Carcich set. Kills by Carcich and Ramsey kept the Red Hawks in the game, but Stevens claimed the victory with a service ace on match point.
 INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Ramsey and RACHEL CURRAN tied for the team lead with nine kills.
  • GABBY KONRAD collected a team-high 10 digs, as Carcich added six.
 FROM THE COURT
"Stevens did a good job serving us tough and getting us out of system. I thought Skye and Rachel did a great job finding success against a solid block and defense. We will focus our attention on our serve receive and defense as we need improvement in those areas for the second half of conference play ahead." – Head Coach Eddie Stawinski.
