Montclair, N.J. - The Montclair State University men's basketball team was edged by Albertus Magnus, 86-83, in a double overtime thriller at the Panzer Athletic Center on Thursday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Red Hawks (2-1) played a tightly contested first half in which the two sides were separated by no more than two possessions. Albertus Magnus opened up a five-point advantage with 12:36 remaining in the opening frame, but Montclair battled back to take the lead at 13-12 behind points from MIKE JACKSON and KEYON PRYCE.
- The Falcons regained the advantage with 9:19 on the clock and went into the break up six, 31-25. Albertus Magnus reached their largest lead of the game at that point of the game, four minutes into the second half at 38-29.
- Montclair then cut into the deficit over the next 3:45, going on a 12-4 scoring run to bring the margin to one behind two three-pointers from GRANT HOLBROOK. The Falcons ballooned the advantage to double-digits, going up 11 with 6:23 remaining in the second half. Montclair responded with a 14-2 scoring run over the next three-plus minutes, including five points from Jackson as well as KIERAN FLANAGAN. The two sides were tied at 62 at the end of regulation.
- After the visitors went up one at the start of overtime, Pryce hit a three and converted a four-point play to give Montclair the lead. The two sides battled down the stretch, and KYREE HENRY sunk a shot from beyond the arc to force double overtime. The Falcons gained the lead in the second overtime with 3:41 remaining and did not relinquish it the rest of the way.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Jackson finished with a game-high 20 points to go along with eight boards. He has scored 20 points in two of the three games for Montclair this season and has reached the mark 13 times in his career.
- Flanagan struck for career-highs in points (17), rebounds (12), and assists (7).
- Franciso Paulino tallied a career-high in points (12) and rebounds (6).
- Montclair forced 20 Albertus Magnus turnovers in the contest.
