Women's Basketball Knocks Off Hunter 83-79

Montclair, N.J. - The Montclair State University women's basketball team knocked off Hunter College 83-79 on Monday night at the Panzer Athletic Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (2-4) traded baskets with the Hawks early in the opening stanza before a MADELYN MCCREA layup opened up a four-point advantage with 5:40 on the clock. The largest advantage for Montclair was six, coming at the 1:32 mark of the quarter.
  • Hunter went on a 7-0 scoring run, bridging into the second quarter to claim the lead at 22-21. The Hawks continued their strong second quarter, leading by as much as seven.
  • After trailing 53-47 with 5:13 in the third quarter, Montclair climbed back to tie the game behind two three-point shots from SHANNON HUGHES. McCrea hit a layup with 40 seconds to regain the lead, but Hunter converted a jumper on the other end to level the score at 64 after 30 minutes.
  • MEGAN DUFFY and ISABELLA ORLANDO struck at the beginning of the fourth quarter to make the score 68-64, and the Red Hawks would not relinquish the lead the rest of the way.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Hughes poured in a career-high 26 points and knocked down seven three-pointers. The seven triples were one off of the school-record eight held by Janitza Aquino and Rachel Krauss.
  • McCrea equaled her career-best of 14 points as she went 7-for-11 from the field in just 12 minutes.
  • OLIVIA VERO matched a career-high with 14 rebounds, including five on the offensive glass.
  • Orlando filled the stat sheet with six points, five steals, four rebounds, and two assists.

UP NEXT
The Red Hawks will resume NJAC play on Wednesday, November 29, as they host Rutgers-Newark. Game time from the Panzer Athletic Center is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
