Men's Basketball Topped By Ramapo

Mahwah, NJ – The Montclair State University men's basketball team was topped by Ramapo College 84-72 on Wednesday evening.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Roadrunners opened up a 21-12 advantage before SAMAR ABDULLAH cut into the margin with a three-pointer. Ramapo pushed the score to double-digits with 12:06 left in the first period, with the host advantage hovering between eight and 10 midway through the frame.
  • An AMIR WILLIAMS layup off a feed from KYREE HENRY, coupled with a three from Abdullah, brought the deficit to four at 30-26, but the Roadrunners were able to extend the margin back to seven on a layup. KUNGA TSERING tossed down a big dunk to get Montclair back to four.
  • Ramapo converted a layup with 33 ticks left to make it 43-37, but the Red Hawks ended the opening 20 minutes with a pair from the charity stripe from KIERAN FLANAGAN to enter the break down four. Flanagan led the Red Hawks with 11 first-half markers, as Tsering and MIKE JACKSON had seven each.
  • Henry tallied six consecutive points on back-to-back threes to make the score 46-45 Ramapo and a Jackson three-pointer leveled at the 48. The Red Hawks took a one-point lead for the first since early in the first half, but the Ramapo countered with a 10-0 spurt to extend the margin back to nine at 59-50.
  • The margin swelled to double digits midway through the second stanza as Ramapo kept Montclair scoreless for 5:14. The Red Hawks dug into the deficit on a dunk from Tsering and a jumper in the paint from Flanagan, making it 76-61 with 6:37 left.
  • The Red Hawks got as close as 10 late in the period on two free throws from KEYON PRYCE but could not get any closer.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Flanagan finished with a team-high 19 points while adding four rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
  • Tsering and Jackson finished with 13 points, as Tsering grabbed a team-best five boards.
  • Abdullah chipped in nine points, including three triples, off the bench.

"Credit to Ramapo thought they played very well. In order to win in this league you need play 40 minutes of good basketball we didn't do that tonight. We need to keep improving and continue to work on playing Montclair State basketball for 40 minutes." Head Coach Justin Potts.
