Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Edged By DeSales Despite Henry's Career-Day

Center Valley, Pa. – The Montclair State University men's basketball team was clipped by host DeSales University 84-83 on day two of the Al Senavitis Memorial Tournament on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The hosts tallied 13 of the first 17 markers before SAMAR ABDULLAH stopped the run with a three-pointer. The Bulldogs' lead went back to double figures in the middle stages of the opening frame, extending the gap to 15 on a three-pointer with 4:35 remaining in the period.
  • QUANTAVIOUS ROGERS netted the final four points of the opening stanza as he converted a layup and knocked down 2-of-3 from the free-throw line in the waning seconds. The Bulldogs took a 43-30 lead into the break, shooting 51.5% (17-of-33) from the floor while Montclair was 11-of-29.
  • Montclair fought back, scoring the five points early in the second half. A 6-0 Red Hawk spurt shrunk the gap to four at 52-48, as AHMAD ROBERTSON polished the run off with a three-pointer.
  • A driving layup by KEYON PRYCE made it 59-55 DeSales with 8:37 left, but the hosts reeled off six consecutive points to push the lead back to 10. Successive triples from KYREE HENRY sandwiched around a DeSales bucket, made it nine at 70-61 with a little five minutes to play.
  • Montclair and DeSales continued to swap baskets, as Rogers and Henry hit from beyond the arc with less than 3:30 left, and a KUNGA TSERING layup made it eight with 3:11 left.
  • The Tsering layup fueled a 10-1 spurt to get Montclair within one before the Red Hawks grabbed their first lead of the afternoon at 81-78 after a four-point play from Henry. After the Bulldogs tied, Henry hit a layup to give Montclair an 83-82 lead.
  • The Bulldogs got within one on a free throw before pulling in front by one with a layup with 17 seconds left. Montclair had a chance for the win, but a layup with five remaining did not fall, and DeSales dribbled out the rest of the clock.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
