Baseball Clubs Their Way Past McDaniel, 22-5

Aberdeen, Md. – A day after notching 26 hits, the Montclair State baseball team tallied 20 en route to a 22-5 triumph over McDaniel Friday.
 
During the two-game series, Montclair State (2-0) outscored McDaniel 47-8.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Green Terror got on the board first, scoring twice in the top of the first and two more in the top of the fifth. The Red Hawks cut into the lead in the home half of the fifth, scoring three times. JASON MOORE led off with a single and moved to second a REECE MALEK single. RYAN MCKENNA stepped down and homered, cutting the deficit to 4-3.
  • Montclair State exploded for 15 runs on 10 hits in the bottom of the sixth. After loading the bases with a single and two walks, the Red Hawks took advantage of errant pitching, plating runners on a wild pitch and passed ball. With men on the corners, McKenna swiped second, and on the throw down, MAX MCLOUGHLIN scampered home to make it 6-4.
  • PETER COSENTINO drove in XANDER NABORS before MATT KALISKE was hit by a pitch with the bags packed, driving in another run. JOE GISONDA delivered a two-run single, with Nabors and Feaster registering RBI singles. The inning finished with Cosentino netting a two-run double, with SAM ANGELO and Kaliske knocking in runs.
  • Montclair State tacked on two more in the seventh, with Nabors adding an RBI single to his ledger and Cosentino lofting a run-scoring sacrifice fly. Nabors capped off the Montclair State barrage in the eighth, belting a two-run double down the left-field line to plate two more.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Gisonda went 4-for-6 in his first start of the year as Nabors went 3-for-3 with a career-high four RBI.
  • Cosentino matched Nabors with four runs batted in as McLoughlin crossed the plate three times.
  • MATT PONTARI won in relief, tossing three innings with six strikeouts. The sophomore allowed two runs on three hits.
UP NEXT
The Red Hawks hit the road on Friday, making the short trip to face Stevens at 3 pm in Hoboken, NJ.
