Women's Lacrosse Knocked Off By FDU-Florham

Madison, NJ – The Montclair State women's lacrosse team fell to in-state rival FDU-Florham 16-5 Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • FDU (1-1) opened the scoring 51 seconds into the game before CHELSEA STACK evened the game on a free-position try three minutes later. The Devils registered the final two goals of the period to take a 3-1 lead after one.
  • Goalkeeper JOEY GROTKOPF kept Montclair (0-2) in the game, making four saves in the opening 15 minutes to keep it at a two-goal margin.
  • The Devils notched the first two markers of the second stanza, extending the run to 4-0 FDU. HAYLEE ROLLER snapped the spurt off a feed from Stack, cutting the deficit to 5-2.
  • Montclair State surrendered two additional markers before NORAH MONAGHAN potted her second tally of the year, making it 7-3. FDU finished the first half with the final two goals, outscoring Montclair 6-2 in the second period to grab a 9-3 advantage at the half.
  • Grotkopf made six saves in the first half as Alison Kozik made five for FDU.
  • Monaghan netted her second of the game with 5:18 left in the third to make the score 11-4. LUCIANA FERRARA registered her first career marker late in the third quarter before FDU scored four times in the fourth to close the game.

  • Monaghan led the Red Hawks with nine shots as Roller paced the team with five ground balls.
  • JOELLE D'ANGELO guided the defense with four caused turnovers, with Monaghan, DANIELLE DE JESUS, and Ferrara adding two.
  • Grotkopf made eight saves in goal during the setback.

The Red Hawks continue their season-opening road trip as they face Farmingdale State Saturday at 2:30 pm.
