Baseball Edges Greensboro, Adrian

High Point, N.C. – RYAN MCKENNA homered in both games as the Montclair State baseball team topped Greensboro and Adrian Saturday.
 
Montclair (6-1) topped Greensboro 5-3 and Adrian 4-2 to close their Spring Break trip to North Carolina.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (vs. Greensboro)
  • The Red Hawks' first two runs were scored on productive outs, with REECE MALEK tallying an RBI groundout in the second and SAM ANGELO hitting a sacrifice fly in the third. McKenna made it 3-0 as he delivered a solo home run in the fifth.
  • Montclair State added a solo run in the seventh as PETER COSENTINO's RBI single drove in McKenna, who hit a one-out triple. Greensboro got a run back in the bottom of the frame, making it 4-1 after seven.
  • The guests capped off the scoring in the eighth, courtesy of an ETHAN SARMIENTO RBI single. The Pride made it interesting, drawing to within 5-3 in the bottom of the eighth. Reliever Jack Haveseon escaped the jam with a fly-out to center. Haveson set Greenseboro down 1-2-3 in the ninth to finish off the game.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE (vs. Greensboro)
  • McKenna, Cosentino, and Sarmiento had two hits, as Angelo walked twice.
  • DYLAN TALIAFERRO earned his first win as a Red Hawk, tossing seven innings with five strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED (vs. Adrian)
  • Scoreless through two, the Red Hawks put two runs on the board in the third. Malek walked with one out, and two batters later, Cosentino belted a two-run home run to center field to give Montclair a 2-0 edge.
  • Adrian got a run back in the fourth and evened the game at two in the seventh. NICOLAS CURCIO entered in the seventh but ran into trouble in the eighth as the leadoff hitter doubled. Curcio fought back and retired the next three hitters.
  • McKenna snapped the 2-2 tie in the bottom of the eighth, hitting his second homer in as many games. MILES FEASTER singled up the middle and came around on a double from Angelo. PATRICK TEEHAN entered in the ninth and shut the door, surrendering one hit.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE (vs. Adrian)
  • Angelo went 2-for-4 with two doubles.
  • MATT PONTARI earned a no-decision, tossing 6 1/3 innings while giving up three hits with five strikeouts.
  • Curcio and Teehan combined for 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.
