Softball Sweeps Past Centenary 8-0 And 3-2

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State softball team topped Centenary 8-0 and 3-2 in their home opener Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (7-1) opened the first game with two runs in the first innings as AMBER REED's two-run single plated LIZ MULLEN and JENNA MELUSO.
  • Montclair broke the game open in the third, scoring five runs. STEPHANIE SERETIS recorded an RBI double as JULIANA CASILLAS, and CHLOE SAPERSTEIN registered RBI singles. The Red Hawks capped off the game in the bottom of the sixth, as Saperstein's RBI single ended the game.
  • For the second straight game, the Red Hawks jumped out to a lead in the first. Meluso's sacrifice fly brought ALYSSA BOROZAN home as she led off with a triple. The Cyclones battled back, scoring single runs in the second and third frames to take a 2-1 lead.
  • The Red Hawks used a two-out rally in the third to even the contest at 2. KAYLA COSENTINO doubled with two outs in the third and came around to score on a Mullen single. Seretis entered in the fourth and retired two outs to escape a bases-loaded, two-out jam.
  • Seretis laced a one-out triple to left in the sixth and, after a strikeout, scored as Casillas blooped a single in left-center. The Cyclones threatened in the top of the seventh, loading the bags with two down. Seretis struck out Sierra Kaye to finish off the sweep.
