Softball Takes Two From Keene State

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State softball team swept Keene State College in a doubleheader Sunday afternoon.
 
The Red Hawks (12-2) won the opener 6-0 before winning 4-2 in the nightcap.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After three scoreless frames, the Red Hawks broke through in the fourth. AMBER REED beat out a fielder's choice, allowing KAYLA COSENTINO to score. Montclair broke the game open in the fifth, plating five runners. ALYSSA BOROZAN had an RBI single before AMBER REED delivered the big blow, a three-run home run.
  • The Owls threatened in the seventh, putting two runners on with one out. ALI CAVALLARO retired the following hitter via the infield fly rule and got a fly-out to center to end game one.
  • The Red Hawks took the in the third frame of game two, scoring all four runs. LIZ MULLEN laced a double to right-center with the bases loaded, bringing home two runs. STEPHANIE SERETIS came up next and singled up the middle, allowing Cosentino to score.
  • NIKKI LUSNIA allowed just two hits through the first six innings but ran into trouble in the seventh. They strung together two runs, loading the bases with one out. Seretis came in and retired the final two batters via strikeout to complete the sweep.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Reed had four RBI in the opener as Borozan went 2-for-4.
  • Cavallaro improved to 6-1, registering her second straight complete game shutout. The senior fanned six batters and allowed seven hits in the opener.
  • Cosentino went 3-for-3 in the second game.
  • Lusnia struck out five in six innings to move to 3-0, with Seretis notching her first save of the year. Seretis fanned three in the seventh.
