Softball Knocked Off By Stevens

Weehawken, NJ – The Montclair State softball team fell to Stevens 4-1 and 5-4 in a doubleheader
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (12-4) scored first in game one, pushing a run across in the top of the first. ALYSSA BOROZAN singled up the middle to lead off the game and moved to third on an error and fielder's choice. LIZ MULLEN followed with an RBI single, giving Montclair a 1-0 lead.
  • Montclair held Stevens scoreless until the third when the Ducks pushed a run across in the bottom of the third. Stevens took the lead for good in the fifth, putting two runs on board with one out.
  • After the Ducks scored their final run in the sixth, Montclair attempted to rally in the seventh. Mullen led off with a double, and AMBER REED walked. With two outs, MARIAH CARRASCO walked to load the bases. They could not scratch runs across the plate, as a groundout ended game one.
  • Stevens grabbed a 4-0 after three innings, including two tallies in the bottom of the third. Montclair got one back in the fourth, with STEPHANIE SERETIS delivering an RBI double to left field.
  • The Red Hawks evened the contest at four in the fifth, putting three runs up. JULIANA CASILLAS and NIKKI LUSNIA singled with one out, with Lusnia scoring two batters later on a fielder's choice. KAYLA COSENTINO lined a single to left-center, allowing two runners to score and tying it up.
  • In extra innings, the Red Hawks could not score, with Stevens scoring in their at-bat to claim the win on a single up the middle.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Mullen had two hits in the opener, as ALI CAVALLARO fanned three in game one.
  • Cosentino tallied a pair of singles in game two, with Lusnia striking out five in 7 1/3 innings.
UP NEXT
The Red Hawks visit Rutgers-Newark in their New Jersey Athletic Conference opener on Saturday, with the first pitch in Newark, NJ scheduled for 1 pm.
