Men's Lacrosse Cruises Past Wilkes, 23-4

Wilkes-Barre, Pa. – The Montclair State men's lacrosse team cruised to a 23-4 triumph over Wilkes University Saturday.
 
TYLER MCCREERY and RYAN VIERBUCHEN scored five goals for Montclair State (7-6).
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks blitzed the Colonels out of the gate, putting up eight goals in the first quarter. After JOE COVINO opened the scoring 55 seconds in, TYLER MCCREERY netted three consecutive markers. Covino added a second before the period ended, as Vierbuchen, JACK NORBERTO, and MIKE MCCREERY also scored.
  • Montclair recorded the first four markers of the second period, as LOUIS AZARA, JACK CLEARY, Vierbuchen, and TYLER MCCREERY potted goals. Wilkes snapped the run with 3:36 left in the second, but Montclair finished the first half with the final two goals.
  • Montclair State outshot Wilkes 37-10 in the first half and caused 15 Colonel turnovers.
  • Vierbuchen capped off his scoring with 3:50 left in the third, and JOHN CRANK registered a pair of fourth-quarter markers to help Montclair continue to pull away. JACK NORBERTO registered the final tally with 3:26 left, and the game was called with 3:01 left in the fourth due to lightning.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • MIKE MCCREERY had two assists and three goals, as Cleary registered two goals and two assists.
  • LUKE CENERI went 10-of-13 on faceoffs, as the Red Hawks won 24 as a unit.
  • CHRISTIAN SHOTWELL paced the defense with six ground balls as JACK WHITE forced a team-high two turnovers.
  • JACKSON SIMONS recorded a career-high four points on a goal and three helpers.

The Red Hawks resume Coastal Lacrosse Conference action Wednesday as they host Stockton University at 6 pm.
