Women's Lacrosse Storms Back, Clips Ramapo In Overtime

Mahwah, NJ – The Montclair State women's lacrosse team overcame a 6-2 halftime deficit to knock off Ramapo College 13-12 in triple overtime Tuesday afternoon.
 
JOEY GROTKOPF made a career-high 14 saves for Montclair State (4-8, 1-1 NJAC) as the Red Hawks moved to 16-0 all-time against the Roadrunners.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Montclair fell behind 3-1 after a quarter, with MARGIE QUINTANA scoring 2:37 into the game. Ramapo pushed the lead to 6-1 late in the second, but JOELLE D'ANGELO scored with 1:51 left to make it 6-2 entering halftime.
  • Grotkopf kept the Red Hawks in the game, making six first-half saves as Ramapo held a 22-11 edge in shots over the first 30 minutes.
  • Montclair stormed back in the third quarter, outscoring the Roadrunners 7-2. ASHLEY PETROSINE started the run 58 seconds into the frame before DANIELLE DE JESUS, and JADE GORMAN tallied markers 28 seconds apart.
  • After Ramapo re-established a two-goal lead CHELSEA STACK scored twice to level the game at seven. Petrosine gave Montclair their first lead of the afternoon scoring with 12 ticks left in the third and beating the buzzer to score with no time left, making it 9-8 Montclair.
  • The two sides traded goals in the fourth before Stack completed the hat-trick with 2:45 left. HAYLEE ROLLER converted a free-position shot with 2:08 remaining, pushing the score to 12-10. Ramapo forced the extra session with two tallies in the final 1:48, including the tying marker with 13 seconds left.
  • Grotkopf made a crucial save in the first overtime, but Montclair was denied on three opportunities, including one with no time left. Ramapo had a shot with 13 seconds left in the second extra session, yet the rookie goalkeeper made the denial.
  • The Red Hawks finally put the Roadrunners away 40 seconds into the third OT, as D'Angelo potted her second goal of the game, setting off the celebration.

  • Petrosine scored a career-high four goals and added an assist.
  • D'Angelo was the catalyst on both ends, scoring two goals on seven shots while adding 11 draw controls.
  • OLIVIA DALLY led the defensive unit with three caused turnovers while picking up three draw controls.
