TCNJ Takes Two From Softball

Ewing, NJ - The Montclair State softball team dropped a pair of games to The College of New Jersey Saturday afternoon.

The Red Hawks (17-15, 3-11 NJAC) fell 3-1 and 4-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Lions took a 1-0 lead in their first at-bat of the afternoon, but Montclair State starter ALI CAVALLARO kept TCNJ scoreless again until the fifth. The Red Hawks put runners on base in the second, third, and fifth frames but could not push a run home.
  • TCNJ made it 3-0 in the fifth on two hits, but reliever STEPHANIE SERETIS notched a groundout to end the inning. Montclair broke through in the sixth, as ALYSSA BOROZAN led off with a double to right. Borozan moved to third on a groundout and scored a fly ball from JENNA MELUSO.
  • After a scoreless two innings in game two, the Red Hawks score twice in the third. KAYLA COSENTINO doubled to lead off the inning and, two batters later, scored on a Seretis double. AMBER REED was up next and dropped a single to right, plating pinch-runner MELISSA CASELLA.
  • The Lions took the lead with four runs in the home half of the third, the big blow coming on a bases-clearing triple. Montclair had the go-ahead run at the plate in the sixth after Borozan reached on a fielder's choice and Meluso singled. They could not do any other damage as a groundout finished the inning off.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • LIZ MULLEN went 2-for-3 in game one.
  • Seretis fanned three out of the four batters she faced in the opener.
  • Meluso's single in game two was the 100th of her career.
