Women's Lacrosse Clipped By Kean, 11-9

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State women's lacrosse team was edged by Kean University 11-9 in New Jersey Athletic Conference play Wednesday.
 
ASHLEY PETROSINE scored three times for the Red Hawks (4-10, 1-3 NJAC).
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Petrosine scored the first two goals for Montclair State before Kean reeled five consecutive tallies bridging the first and second quarters. JOELLE D'ANGELO stopped the run with an unassisted marker with 3:52 left in the first half, trimming the margin to 6-3.
  • Kean held a slim 15-11 edge in shots as the Red Hawks forced 12 turnovers in the opening 30 minutes.
  • The visitors tallied the first goal of the third quarter, but Montclair battled back with three consecutive goals. D'Angelo started the run before a Petrosine man-up goal made it 7-5. DANIELLE DE JESUS capped off the rally with a free-position goal.
  • Kean responded with the final goal of the third, but CHELSEA STACK scored 1:24 into the fourth to make it 8-7. The Cougars answered back 39 seconds later, re-establishing the two-goal margin.
  • After a Stack unassisted marker, SAMANTHA HANDZO netted a free-position goal with 5:52 remaining to level the game at nine. The Cougars scored nine later to take the lead back for good and added an insurance goal with 3:27 left to complete the win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • D'Angelo and Stack scored twice, with Stack firing seven shots.
  • Defender KAITLIN ZAZZARO picked up three ground balls, as D'Angelo netted five draw controls and three caused turnovers.
  • JOEY GROTKOPF made seven saves in the setback.
