Ramapo Clips Baseball 6-4

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State baseball team dropped a 6-4 New Jersey Athletic Conference decision to Ramapo College Thursday afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a scoreless first, Ramapo (13-7, 2-1 NJAC) scored the first run of the afternoon on a groundout in the second. The Red Hawks (14-5, 1-2 NJAC) leveled the game in the third. REECE MALEK led off with a walk and moved to third on a pair of outs. MILES FEASTER came up with two outs and singled Malek home tying the game at one.
  • Montclair grabbed their first lead of the day in the fourth. SAM ANGELO walked and stole second before advancing to third on a fly-put. ANTHONY GUARINO dropped a single to right, scoring Angelo. The Roadrunners regained the lead in the fifth, pushing across two runs on only one.
  • Training 3-2 in the sixth, Montclair was able to tie the game on a solo home run to left field by XANDER NABORS. ALEC BENZINGER relieved starter MATT PONTARI in the eighth and promptly retired Ramapo on five pitches.
  • Ramapo filled the bases in the ninth with one out, but Benzinger notched a strikeout to record the second out. The Roadrunners notched two straight run-scoring singles, bringing in three runs to snap the 3-3 tie.
  • The Red Hawks drew within two in the bottom of the ninth as Angelo cranked a long home run to right-center, making it 6-4. Montclair could not get any closer, as a flyout and groundout ended the game.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Nabors hit his second home run in as many games and added a single.
  • Angelo reached base in all five plate appearances, drawing three walks in addition to his two hits.
  • Malek walked three times and added a single.
  • Pontari tossed seven innings, allowing two hits while striking out six.
