Softball Topped by Ramapo

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State softball team was swept in a doubleheader by Ramapo College Saturday.

The Red Hawks (17-7, 3-3 NJAC) fell 6-2 and 6-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A pitcher's duel between Montclair's ALI CAVALLARO and Marissa DiPaolo saw them stay scoreless until the fifth inning. The Roadrunners strung together four consecutive hits in the fifth before adding two more to make it 4-0 after the top of the fifth.
  • Montclair battled back, cutting the deficit in half in the bottom of the sixth. ALYSSA BOROZAN led off with a single and came all the way around to score on a double from KAYLA COSENTINO. LIZ MULLEN was up next and slapped a double to left, making it 4-2.
  • The Roadrunners polished off the scoring in the seventh, notching two unearned tallies. Montclair got a baserunner on in the seventh but could not find the hit to level the game.
  • The Red Hawks put up a three-spot in the bottom of the first of game two. Borozan singled to lead off the game and, after moving to third, scored on the back end of a double steal. JULIANA CASILLAS capped off the inning with a two-run single, putting Montclair up for the first time on the day.
  • Montclair State added a tally in the second after a leadoff infield hit from Borozan. Cosentino was hit by a pitch to put two runners on, and Mullen singled Borozan home with a hit to center.
  • The Roadrunners took the lead in the third, notching five runs. The big blow was a three-run home run to left field. Montclair nearly tied the game in the bottom of the third on a NIKKI LUSNIA double, but they had a runner gunned out at home plate to end the inning.
  • After Ramapo tacked on an insurance run in the fourth, Montclair had one final chance in the seventh. STEPHANIE SERETIS led off with a double, and a single from JENNA MELUSO made it first and second with no outs. Ramapo buckled down and retired the next three hitters to complete the sweep.
