Baseball Sweeps Camden; Locks Up No. 3 Seed In NJAC Tournament

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State baseball swept Rutgers-Camden to close the regular season Tuesday afternoon.
 
The Red Hawks (25-9, 12-6 NJAC) locked up the No. 3 seed in the New Jersey Athletic Conference Tournament, which begins Thursday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Rutgers-Camden scored twice in the top of the first before Montclair answered with four in the bottom half. JASON MOORE singled in SAM ANGELO and RYAN MCKENNA for the first two runs. ZACH STEARNS laced a double to center two batters later, scoring two more.
  • The Scarlet Raptors battled back, scoring a single run in the fifth before taking a 6-4 advantage in the sixth. Rutgers-Camden took advantage of four walks in the frame to build a two-run lead.
  • Stearns walked to lead off the sixth and, after a groundout, scored from second on an error. McKenna tied the game with an infield single, and after a pitching change, Angelo launched a long home run into the right-field fescue, giving Montclair an 8-6 lead.
  • Rutgers-Camden sent up the tying run in the top of the ninth with no outs, but PATRICK TEEHAN retired the next three to close out game one.
  • MATTHEW TIPLADY tossed 4 2/3 hitless innings before the Red Hawks erupted for four runs with two outs in the fifth. McKenna and Angelo had singles before Feaster, and MATTEO PASCULLI had consecutive run-scoring doubles. Moore capped off the stanza with an RBI knock to center field.
  • The Red Hawks doubled their margin in the sixth. The team filled the bases with no outs, and McKenna brought two home with a two-run single to center. Feaster dropped a single into the right two hitters later, plating two more.
  • Rutgers-Camden scored in the seventh and eighth, with Moore adding an RBI on a fielder's choice. The guests scored a run in the ninth but were polished off by a strikeout from reliever NICK DESIDERIO.

  • Feaster went 3-for-5 in game one, as Angelo, Moore, and Stearns drove in two runs each.
  • CHRIS LUM and Teehan tossed 3 2/3 hitless innings of relief, allowing just two walks.
  • McKenna went 3-for-4 with two RBI in game two.
  • Feaster, Pasculli, Moore, and McKenna drove in multiple runs.
  • Tiplady tossed a career-high 6 1/3 innings, allowing one run on two hits with four strikeouts.
