Men's Soccer Scores Four Unanswered Goals To Top Endicott 4-1

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State University men's soccer team scored four unanswered goals to knock off Endicott College 4-1 Sunday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both sides had chances early, and the visiting Gulls put up the first goal of the game. In the 18th minute, a shot from in close went in from the center of the box, giving Endicott the 1-0 lead.
  • Montclair responded 2:42 after IAN CHESNEY delivered a long ball to AMER LUKOVIC. Lukovic chested the ball down, evaded a defender, and dribbled around the goalkeeper before depositing the shot into the goal.
  • The Red Hawks took a 2-1 lead in the 27th minute after OSBIN MENDEZ sent a ball into the box from the left side. The pass glanced off REED KARSEN and trickled over the goal line.
  • Montclair nearly added to their advantage early in the second half, but ANDRE SHELTON's close-range try rang off the crossbar. They could capitalize in the 56th minute when Chesney served a long pass to Karsen. The sophomore took three touches and converted the shot for his marker of the day.
  • The Red Hawks tacked on an additional marker in the 79th minute. Mendez had his initial shot saved by the Gulls goalkeeper, who could not corral the shot fully. OWEN MURPHY capitalized on the spilled ball, knocking the rebound into the goal.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Lukovic has scored in every game this season, running his total to seven on the season. The junior fired a team-high eight shots, including six on target.
  • Karsen had the first multi-goal game of his career and scored his first goal since October 25, 2021.
  • BORIS DEL VALLE made one save to earn his second win of the season.
FROM THE FIELD
"I just think it was a tough match. I think Endicott has really good players, and they did a great job defensively on us early on. They were picking us off and able to go to goal quickly, which is why they scored their goal. I think we settled in and figured out our game plan, and I think that worked for us, and the result shows that it did." – Head Coach Todd Tumelty.
