Volleyball Sweeps Past Arcadia

Glenside, Pa. EMILY CARCICH posted a double-double as the Montclair State University volleyball team topped Arcadia in three sets Tuesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The hosts took an early 6-3 lead in the opening frame before three straight markers from Carcich put Montclair in front. The back-and-forth tilt saw ties at 13, 14, and 15 before RACHEL CURRAN capped off a 3-0 run with a kill to give Montclair an 18-15 edge.
  • Arcadia pulled back in front on the heels of a 6-2 spurt, but two consecutive points from Montclair switched the tide. The Red Hawks finished the frame with the final three points, with SKYE RAMSEY notching two kills.
  • With EMMA HATCHER at the service line, the sophomore served up eight straight points, giving the Red Hawks an 11-2 lead. Curran and ZOEY HORN drilled multiple kills during the spurt, but a 9-1 rally by the hosts gave them a 17-14 advantage.
  • Arcadia led 23-20, but GABBY KONRAD slammed down a kill, and a Carcich ace leveled the period at 23. The stanza was tied at 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, and 30 before two unforced errors by the Knights sandwiched around a Carcich ace put Montclair up 2-0. The Red Hawks showed their resilience, fending off five different set points.
  • The final period was close at the beginning before Curran delivered nine straight points, the final two on kills from NADYA ACKERMANIAN. The lead swelled to double digits on an Ackermanian kill, and Montclair went on to deliver the last five markers, with Arcadia committing three miscues during the final run.

FROM THE COURT
"Very happy with our performance tonight and dealing with adversity early. We started off slow with some unforced errors, but we settled down and continued to battle throughout against a well-rounded Arcadia team. We settled in the third set and finished strong. Very happy that we implemented many things we worked on in practice yesterday. Great team win with many players contributing." – Head Coach Eddie Stawinski.
