No. 18 Women's Soccer Upends No. 9 Misericordia

Montclair, NJ - The No. 18 Montclair State University women's soccer team defeated No. 9 Misericordia University 4-1 at MSU Soccer Park on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (3-1-0) opened the scoring four minutes into the game. After being taken down in the box, KYLIE PRENDERGAST slotted a low penalty kick into the left corner of the net.
  • Montclair doubled its advantage in the 17th minute, as MEAGAN O'CALLAHAN sent a ball from midfield in the direction of AILEEN CAHILL, who won a footrace and ripped a shot into the goal.
  • The home side added one more in the first half on a strike from SHANNON MULLINS that found its way past the Cougars goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
  • Misericordia was able to cut into the deficit with a goal in the 50th minute, but Montclair sealed the game with another goal from Prendergast with just over one minute remaining.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Prendergast's brace marked the fourth time in her collegiate career that she recorded two or more goals.
  • Cahill and Prendergast scored in each of Montclair's last two games.
  • HALEY MARTIN tallied a career-high seven saves in the contest.
  • The four goals were a season-high as a team and the most since October 5, 2022, when they scored eight against John Jay College.
FROM THE FIELD
"That's our most complete effort out of time where we needed our most complete effort. That was a huge challenge against Hartford, we thought, we can score goals, and we can attack them, but can we defend the better teams we're going to see. This team offensively is as good as it gets. And for 90 minutes, I thought we limited their great chances. Haley (Martin) cleaned up what she could, and I thought we did a great job of keeping the ball in front of us. I'm super proud of the kids and their effort, and onto another tough one on Saturday." - Head Coach Patrick Naughter.
