Field Hockey Tripped Up By Shenandoah

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State University field hockey dropped a 2-0 non-conference game to Shenandoah University on Sunday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Hornets threatened in the opening moments of the contest, but MCKENNA LAMAN made a kick save. CARLY AMERMAN got her stick on the ball off the rebound before it crossed the goal line to notch the defensive save.
  • After the first half, Shenandoah held an 11-2 edge in shots, but Laman made three stops to keep it 0-0 entering the break.
  • The Red Hawks fired a flurry of shots to open the third quarter as TORI SUTERA, CARLIE VAN TASSEL, and SADIE EICHLIN recorded shots on goal in the opening four minutes.
  • The Hornets had five corners in the third and opened the scoring as the third ended. Off the corner, the ball pinged around in the circle before Mairead McKibbin knocked in the loose ball.
  • Shenandoah doubled their lead 1:16 into the fourth, notching a goal off a penalty stroke. The Red Hawks held a 4-3 margin in shots over the final 15 minutes but were unable to capitalize.

  • Laman made five stops in the setback, with Amerman notching her first defensive save of the season.
FROM THE FIELD
"Today's game had the intensity and physicality of an NJAC game. This is exactly the type of game we need to prepare for our upcoming conference schedule. Although the result is disappointing, I thought we battled hard throughout and generated attack in much better ways than our previous two games. Our focus leading into our next two games will be capitalizing on scoring opportunities." Head Coach Eileen O'Reilly.
