Montclair, NJMEAGAN O'CALLAHAN and KYLIE PRENDERGAST netted a goal and two assists as the No. 11 Montclair State University women's soccer team knocked off New Jersey City University 6-2 in their New Jersey Athletic Conference opener on Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (5-1-0, 1-0-0 NJAC) broke through 3:36 into the game. SHANNON MULLINS chested down a clearing attempt to KYLIE PRENDERGAST. Prendergast quickly passed back to Mullins, who sent a long ball to AILEEN CAHILL. The senior blew past the defense and fired over the goalkeeper, giving Montclair a 1-0 lead.
  • Montclair doubled their advantage 95 seconds later. Predergast completed a long pass to Cahill, who slipped a touch pass to MEAGAN O'CALLAHAN. The graduate student took that try that the goalkeeper couldn't stop, making it 2-0 early in the contest.
  • NJCU put their first shot on frame in the eighth minute off a free-kick, but HALEY MARTIN denied the attempt. The Red Hawks weren't done, as KIMBERLY CAMPBELL scored her first of the season in the 20th minute. After corralling a ball sent into the attacking third by EMMI DENOVELLIS, Campbell dribbled in untouched before slotting a shot inside the far post.
  • Montclair held a commanding 11-3 advantage in shots after the first half and tallied five corners.
  • The Gothic Knights got back into the game early in the second half, cutting the deficit to one with two goals in four minutes. The Red Hawks re-established a two-goal cushion in the 59th minute, as KELLY FITZGERALD knocked home a corner from O'Callahan.
  • Just 2:32 later, Prendergast put in her first goal of the day as she converted an O'Callahan pass. The Red Hawks finished the scoring with 1:32 left after GIANNA CURCI found MIKAYLA HENDERSON in the box, and the sophomore finished the pass.
