Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Tumelty Wins No. 200 As No. 5 Men's Soccer Tops NJCU 4-1

Jersey City, NJ – Head Coach Todd Tumelty of the No. 5 Montclair State University men's soccer team collected his 200th career win as the Red Hawks scored three times en route to a 4-1 win over NJCU Friday.

SALEM ELLISY had a goal and an assist for Montclair (7-0-1, 1-0-0 NJAC) in the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Red Hawks (5-1-0, 1-0-0 NJAC) outshot NJCU 8-3 in the first half, but the NJCU goalkeeper denied AMER LUKOVIC's shots in the sixth and 20th minute. The Gothic Knights were reduced to 10 men in the 24th minute after a straight red card.
  • Montclair broke through with 1:14 left in the opening period. The ball pinged around inside the 18-yard box before ALFREDO ROJAS touched it onto the foot of Ellisy. Ellisy beat the goalkeeper to put Montclair up 1-0.
  • The Gothic Knights answered back with one second remaining in the opening frame. The ball went out for a corner kick, and off the quick restart, Anthony Salmeron slid a ball just over the line to even the match right before the half ended.
  • Goalkeeper SHANE KEENAN made a stop in the 53rd minute, and four minutes later, the hosts were whistled for a foul in the box off a corner. Lukovic stepped up to the spot and converted the kick, giving Montclair a 2-1 lead.
  • The Gothic Knights received a second red card in the 65th minute, and the Red Hawks doubled their margin 2:28 later. Ellisy crossed a pass into the box, and Lukovic finished the try, making it 3-1.
  • Montclair capped off the scoring in the 66th minute. Off a free-kick, ENIR RADONCIC toe-poked a ball towards the goal line, and IAN CHESNEY hammered into the back of the goal, pushing the advantage to 4-1. The Red Hawks held NJCU without a shot on goal over the final 26 minutes to claim the win.

  • Ellisy tallied his first collegiate points in the victory while playing a season-high 48 minutes.
