Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball Topped By Regis, Trinity

Hartford, CT – The Montclair State University volleyball team fell in five sets to Regis (MA) College and three sets to Trinity (CT) College on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After falling in the opening against Regis, the Red Hawks notched six of the first nine points in the second. The Pride closed to within one at 18-17, but a double-block from SKYE RAMSEY and SOPHIA LOPEZ and a Lopez kill made it 21-17. The Red Hawks used an unforced error from the Pride to level the match at one.
  • A ZOEY HORN service ace extended the Red Hawks gap to 10-7 in the third period, but Regis fought back to even things at 18. A NADYA ACKERMANIAN kill snapped a 21-21 deadlock, yet Regis countered with four of the final five points to go up 2-1.
  • Two kills and an ace from RACHEL CURRAN gave Montclair an 11-7 advantage in the fourth frame before Regis answered with four consecutive markers. KATIE RODMAN fired up an ace, extending the score to 19-13, and a Curran kill forced a deciding fifth set.
  • Horn slammed down a kill to trim the deficit to 6-5 in the fifth stanza, but the Red Hawks could not get closer than three the rest of the way as Regis finished off the game with an 8-1 spurt.
  • Montclair fell behind 6-0 in the first set to Trinity before Curran put away an EMILY CARCICH set to trim the margin to 8-4. The Bantams reeled off eight straight markers to break the set open and claimed the opening one 25-12.
  • The Red Hawks took a 6-3 edge in the second period before an ADDISON CASTLES ace made it 9-7. Trinity went on a 7-1 run before Montclair got within one on a Carcich ace. An 8-2 rally by the hosts separated the two sides, and Montclair would get as close as five before dropping the second set.
  • Trailing 18-10 in the third period, EMILY FERRI, SHELLEY EATON, and MIA CAPRIGLIONE had kills as Montclair got to 18-15. That was as close as they got, as Trinity polished off the frame with five of the last six markers.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Curran tallied a season-high 20 kills while adding 16 digs in the setback to Regis.
  • Horn had 10 kills and four blocks, as Lopez added four total blocks against Regis.
  • Ramsey had seven kills against Trinity, as EMMA HATCHER had 12 digs.
FROM THE COURT
"We got off to a slow start against Regis but settled in the second set. Unfortunately, we had a few unforced errors down the stretch. Against Trinity we couldn't really slow down their offense and they did a good job keeping pressure on us. We will use this weekend to learn and prepare for a tough conference week." Head Coach Eddie Stawinski.
